Wooden or Stainless Steel Dry Toilets: Which One to Choose?

Jul 7, 2023

There you have it, your decision is made: your future toilets will be dry! (And we understand why.) But you wonder which material will be most suitable for you and whether to choose wood or stainless steel. Both have their advantages and are suitable for different needs and preferences.

In this article, we will explore the benefits of wooden and stainless steel dry toilets, as well as the criteria to consider when making the choice that suits you best.

Advantages of Wooden Dry Toilets

Natural and Sustainable Material:

As you know, wood is a renewable and environmentally friendly material. By choosing wooden dry toilets, you opt for an eco-friendly solution that reduces your carbon footprint. At iCAG, we exclusively use wood from sustainably managed forests in France, right next to our workshop. Sourcing from local sawmills allows us to observe and verify the quality of the poplar logs waiting to be sawn. These logs will become beautiful raw planks used to craft your dry toilets.

Why choose poplar? Because it is an extraordinary wood, despite being criticized by many professionals who favor chemically treated woods. Poplar is a strong, lightweight wood that naturally repels parasites, making it unnecessary to treat.

Using untreated wood to manufacture composting dry toilets allows us to use the wood scraps and sawdust without worry. The loop is closed!

Comfort and Warmth:

Wooden dry toilets offer a certain comfort due to their warm-to-the-touch surface. We pay special attention to the wood finishes to make it as pleasant as possible for you. It is sanded and coated with three layers of natural and ecological hard oil, both inside and outside.

This is in contrast to traditional ceramic toilets, which are often cold and austere.

Aesthetic Appeal:

Wooden dry toilets have a rustic and natural charm that seamlessly fits into any environment. They add a warm and authentic touch to your space while providing a pleasant visual experience. Our customers are always delighted with the result and find our iCAG dry toilets very aesthetically pleasing! We have chosen to leave the natural color of raw wood for an even more beautiful finish.

Among the wooden models we offer, some are particularly popular with our customers.

Advantages of Stainless Steel Dry Toilets:

Durability and Resistance:

Stainless steel dry toilets are known for their durability and resistance. This material can withstand all outdoor conditions, including humidity (ideal for seaside installations) and temperature variations, making it an ideal choice for use in demanding environments.

Our stainless steel toilets are constructed with a stainless steel tube frame, an anti-slip aluminum sheet floor, anti-bacterial and anti-graffiti compact laminate walls, stainless steel door hinges, and a transparent polycarbonate roof. In short, a dry toilet cabin that can withstand anything!

Ease of Maintenance and Hygiene:

Stainless steel toilets are easy to clean and maintain. Their smooth surface prevents the accumulation of dirt and bacteria, making them a hygienic option. Cleaning can be easily done by using a hose or high-pressure cleaner on the entire cabin.

Moreover, stainless steel is resistant to stains and odors (although dry toilets, in general, are odorless), making it easier to maintain the cleanliness of your dry toilets.

Suitable for Heavy Use:

If you plan to use dry toilets intensively, especially in public places, on construction sites, in businesses, or at events, stainless steel dry toilets are a wise choice. Their robust construction makes them capable of handling high traffic and resisting daily wear and tear.

Prominent Models of Stainless Steel Dry Toilets:

Built on the same base as our Standard wooden model, this Stainless Steel model has the advantage of anti-bacterial and anti-graffiti compact laminate walls. A rear hatch provides access to waste and makes emptying and filling sawdust easy. The roof is made of transparent polycarbonate for a bright and modern look.

Perfectly suited for any type of community, as you can read in this article, this model will allow you to make considerable water savings. You don’t need to connect it; you can install it according to your needs without constraints.
